Auto tune is a pitch correcting software. Released in 1997 it has been used to correct the voice of singers in many different types off music. From Pop to Rock this software runs rampant. It was originally intended to correct off-key inaccuracies. Auto tune can also be used as a vocal effect like in Cher's "Believe." More recently Auto tune has been used to correct the vocals of just about every major artist in the industry. All they have to do is sing the verse and the chorus and leave. It saves time but the vocals aren't natural. There is no natural transition from note to note. This allows anyone and everyone to be able to create music. And money, a lot of money. But is this really a good thing?
I think the more people that can express themselves through music the better. I do like the opportunity it gives some who cant sing but what about the people who can sing. It seems unfair to the true vocalists. the ones who don't talk for a whole day while on tour so they don't blow out their voice. The ones who actually sing live and do it well. They really deserve the recognition of the fact that those real singers don't use auto tune.
Personally i think this destroys any integrity the music industry has. Most of these popular singers don't write their own music. So when one of these "artists" use's auto tune i don't think they should get any money for that song. So not only do they not need to sing well at all they also didn't even write the song they are singing. So at the end of the day they get paid millions for singing someone else's song into an auto tune program. Do you think this is an alright thing to do?
